Crocheted Beaded Necklace - Finishing Techniques

Jeanne demonstrated how to add a clasp to a crocheted beaded necklace.

Supplies list:

• #10 cotton thread and a #7 steel crochet hook OR Lame thread and a size C or #2 crochet hook
• #10 or #12 steel crochet hook
• 19 - 8mm glass beads
• 1 - Filigree clasp
• 1 big eye beading needle or 1 blue dental floss pick
• Yarn needle

Double Stitch Fashion Show

The Simmons twin sisters from Chicago will bring their crochet creations to show our group. Monika and Erika are the authors of "Double stitch designs for the crochet fashionista" published by Interweave Press in 2008.

Knit Out and Crochet Too, 10 AM to 4 PM
Northbrook Court

Instead of our regular meeting, the chapter participated in the Knit Out and Crochet Too event.

LIBRARY DISPLAY - Rolling Meadows Library
Theme: Spring into Crochet (flowers/floral)

Crochet Buffet, 10 AM to 4 PM

Chapter members brought display boards, crocheted items, and books on the technique they demonstrated.

Beaded Spiral Bracelet

Supplies List:
- Size 10 crochet cotton thread in a compatible color to the beads

- Approximately 360 size "E" beads in 6 different colors, or 3 or 2 colors. Beads must be prestrung!
String 1 of each if using 6 colors, 2 of each if using 3 colors, or 3 of each if using 2 colors. Colors will spiral.

- Size 6 or 7 steel crochet hook

- A 12" length of rattail cord, or a round shoestring will help to get the bracelet started.

Crochet Q&A/White Elephant Sale

White elephant sale - chapter members contributed bring crochet-related items for white elephant sale. Proceeds benefitted the NI CGOA chapter.

Yarn Tour. Set aside the whole day. We will visit 3 yarn shops, and also take a break from shopping to have lunch.

Theme: "Anything Goes", with emphasis on hot, bright, summer colors,

Warm Up America/Charity Crochet/Chapter Challenge

Warm Up America - chapter members brought 7-inch by 9-inch squares to be joined into squares. Squares were joined into lapghans to be donated to a local hospice.

Chapter Challenge - theme was "Summertime". Amy Steinmetz was the Challenge Chair.

• Worsted weight (medium weight/size 4) yarn, in 2 contrasting colors (no black, navy blue, dark brown, or other dark colors please). Plain, smooth yarn works best for being able to see your stitches.

Mitred Square Workshop - Reversible Teddy Bear Vest

Supplies List:

• Worsted weight (medium weight/size 4) yarn, in 2 contrasting colors (no black, navy blue, dark brown, or other dark colors please). Plain, smooth yarn works best for being able to see your stitches.
• Stitch markers
• Scissors
• 12-inch teddy bear (if you want to fit the vest to your bear)

Irish Crochet

Students learned some basics about Irish crochet, the precursor to Free Form crochet, while making a small "Roaring 20s" compact holder. Many samples of authentic Irish crochet were displayed.
